Case Study of a 14 yrear old female : Papilloma



Benign tumors of epithelial origin is Papilloma. Squamous Papilloma is associated with papilloma viruses. they are similar to that of the skin warts with some differences.HPV 6 and HPV11 is most common although it is not very contagious .
The papilloma is an exophytic growth made up of numerous small finger like projections that resembles the roughen or verrucous or cauliflower like appearance of its surface. it is well defined and pedunculate growth few are sessile too. It is either white of pink in color and can occur any place in the oral cavity. these are few MM in diameter up to several Cms .it can occur at any age of patient. Treatment is normally excision from its base and recurrence is limited. Although it can spread to different parts of the same person.



Case Study : A young girl of age 14years visited the hospital today. She had grossly carious 36 which resulted to a space infection. In the tip of the tongue a pedunculate mass was seen which was attached to the tongue .the patient had neither pain nor any sensation due to the mass. As per the patient this mass was has grown up to this size after 2 years. Initially it was pretty small, the growth of the mass was gradual and has grown up to 1cm in diameter (approx). It had a white surface, which was rough and had somewhat pebble like appearance with a well-defined surface. The surface was flat and the mass is connected to the tongue with a stalk like portion, which had similar color as that of the tongue.
